Dear New Members, We are pleased and excited to welcome you the West Ashley band family! Soon you will graduate middle school and will enter a new chapter in your lives...that wonderful, exciting, confusing, and memorable time called high school. We know that you are ready to start your work at West Ashley High School, and we want to take this opportunity to welcome you to both the school itself and to the West Ashley H.S. Band Program. Being a part of the West Ashley band will be an experience you'll never forget. The opportunities to perform, lead, make friends and travel are seemingly endless! The Marching band travels to contests all over the state to compete in competitions including state finals, supports the football team at all home games and some away games while keeping the audience dancing with "Stand Jams!". The Wind Ensemble prepares for three concerts a year including the Holiday Concert, Concert Festival, and a Spring Concert. The Jazz Band is constantly performing in Drama Studio productions, band concerts, Relay for Life and even holding their own Valentine's Day Concert! West Ashley boasts two successful Winter Guards and one Winter Drumline that travel across the state performing in contests. The Beginner bands are busy learning new instruments and discovering music for the very first time while learning respect for others and theirselves. The West Ashley band program is challenging. It takes hard work, dedication, and commitment. It requires time and energy outside of school, and it mandates that students maintain a professional work ethic and attitude. And yet, for all the work put in to the program, the rewards are returned tenfold. Students in the band make friends that will last a lifetime. As a member, you will learn leadership skills and personal skills that will help you in whatever you choose to do in your life. You will learn to further your skills as a young musician; and experiencing the relentless, refining power of Music through its uncompromising standards.
